Pet Project creates luxury pet furniture of quality materials in a minimalistic, elegant style that will look good in any setting. The Pet Project in Copenhagen, Denmark was founded by designers Lene Nendel and Michael Ryding. When Nendel came up with the need for pet furniture for her cat, the pair ventured into the world of pet design.

Why are pet houses often ugly, overly cute or in bad taste? That was the question designer Lene Nendel asked herself when she went out to buy a cat house. And by that the idea of The Pet Project was born, for in cooperation with business partner Michael Ryding the two set out to do something about it. In 2003 they started designing prototypes for dog houses and cat houses. Lene Nendel states, "The idea is to make products that both the pets will like to use and the owner likes to look at. They are furniture that can be in your living room without having animal screamed all over it.

Even before the first shipment was ready The Pet Project caused an enthusiastic reaction with orders from the US and Japan. Michael Ryding says, "We were invited by the Danish consulate in New York to a pet fair but were forewarned that we might not get so much out of it, business-wise. We were very nervous. Were we the only ones that could see the idea in our products, we asked ourselves? But being at the fair was fantastic. At the end of the fair we had more than 200 requests and 15 direct orders.

Pet furniture by Pet Project is made from natural materials such as leather, lambs wool, steel, wood and glass. Each pet furniture product is minimalist yet has a comfortable feel and is made specially to blend in to the modern home rather than being hidden away in a corner. A percentage of all earnings are donated to cat and dog charities in the customers local area.
